PxP and ARCHEMED in Eritrea 2016
Using proceeds from the PxP Festival and support from PxP Embassy e.V., a partnership with German non-profit ARCHEMED (Doctors for Children in Need e.V. ) established a neonatal intensive care unit for premature babies in need of life-saving treatment. The financial resources this initiative provided helped save the lives of 850 premature babies and newborns in critical condition in Asmara.
Eritrea is one of the poorest countries in the world. The lack of economic stability has jeopardized the quality of primary healthcare, and as a result, lowered the country’s life expectancy. Tens of thousands of people cross the Danakil Desert hoping to find a better life. Many premature babies are fighting for their lives. These tiny infants, with a birth weight between 500 and 1,500 grams, are in desperate need of warmth, oxygen, and hygiene. ARCHEMED has set itself the task of fundamentally improving the lives of children in Eritrea through medical and humanitarian aid. They are working to ensure that every child has the opportunity to receive basic medical care.
